That's completely over the top.

Obama is not making the government more religious; he wants to have some money to go to programs like soup kitchens and after school programs that are run by faith communities.

Re: okie (none / 0)

Bush is a total phony who used religion to get what he wanted. Perhaps he does believe God spoke to him, he's still not a Christian in any sense of the word I've ever seen. I think his perception of God came from "Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret".

Obama actually went to church, he knows church leaders, he knows what they can do. If you know of a better or faster way to organize a national community service group with branches all across the country, then... do it. Because you'd qualify for that funding, too. :-)

Re: okie (none / 0)

understood, but the door's already been opened. I don't see how we could simply make faith-based programs disappear. At this point, the best move would seem to be putting in place a proper set of standards and regulation to make sure that a president quayle couldn't mess with it in the future.

By the way, considering I've dealt with some religious organizations that help the needy as part of my job, I don't think faith-based funding is a bad idea. They usually do tremendous work.

Anybody know of any good free internet security. I was using AVG and they made me update to their trial for 8.0 recently. I don't like it and will not pay for their product. And today I don't feel like paying for anyones product before checking it out.

How apropos -- I just read about them today.  AVG is a piece of shit that screws web site owners by generating bogus traffic.  I use Privoxy.  It's a bit tricky to get set up, but it's free and does a great job tossing ads and other junk.

You need to look for the FREE version.

You can also start here:

Becareful of what you "check" while loading it.

Uninstall the "upgrade" you just got and install the one from the link above.

Re: Open Thread (2.00 / 2)

Republican strategists are worried that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama will make a very positive impression and burnish his international credentials when he takes his much-ballyhooed foreign trips in the coming weeks.

"It has the potential to be a big plus for Obama," says a senior Republican who has advised several presidents over the years. "The American people know we are not liked overseas anymore, and it bothers them. People feel that Obama could help change that."

Re: Open Thread (none / 0)

I'll be interested to see what a bulldog approach does to McCain's support with independents.  I guess it could drive up Republican support.  But the guy is losing right now so i guess he has no choice but to try and knee cap Obama.

Hey, we had almost a month of peace so that has to be worth something:)

I dunno if I'd call it peace, McCain has attacked on a daily basis while Obama just parries. I'm just worried about what might happen if McCain starts hitting harder or with more focus.

I'm a democrat too so I am worried all the time.  The hits are going to come and we just have to hope he is ready.

But still, it will be interesting to see what that type of approach does to McCain's maverick image. Maybe it can hold up while still being a traditional mud slinging republican, or maybe it will cause him to tank.

The only thing I do know for sure, is that I am going to drink a ton of beer and eat a lot of brats this weekend.  Happy 4th.

Re: Open Thread (none / 0)

Thinking about it, if I were the GOP, I'd be more worried about what it does to McCain. You can really really tell that he HATES the negative campaigning. If he has to do it through October while Obama seriously tries to stay on the high road whenever possible, he will be dog-tired and just look miserable by the convention.

memo to Obama for America (2.00 / 4)

It's time for the Obama campaign to go on the offensive and compare the executive management skills of Barack Obama and John McCain.

The McCain for President organization has undergone two major reorganizations involving key personnel and campaign strategy within one year.  Objective press reports of internal dissention, poor tactical decisions and the lack of an overall campaign strategy are common.  What does this tell us about McCain's ability as a manager?  Can we expect annual shake-ups of top  people and direction once a year in a McCain administration?

In contrast, Barack Obama has led what is widely regarded as one of the most consistent, stable, effective and efficient campaign operations in American political history.  This is even more impressive when you consider how much larger the Obama organization is (in dollars and staff) compared to the McCain organization.  Also, in battling with and defeating the formidable Clintons, the Obama organization has operated under considerably more stress and press scrutiny for a longer period of time than the McCain organization.

When people talk about and evaluate a future Obama administration, few mention Obama's executive management skills.  But to date, which candidate has delivered the goods on this vital  role of a President?
